The Back Page | Philip Yancey:Would Jesus Worship Here?
Across the world, God moves in mysterious ways.
Yancey: Doctor's Orders
Why should I care if my doctor is unhappy? I'm not his psychiatrist.
Yancey: Getting to Know Me
In most ways important to God, I had failed miserably.
Yancey: The Encyclopedia of Theological Ignorance
In view of the mess we have made of crystal-clear commands, I tremble to think how we might act if some doctrines were less ambiguous.
Yancey: Writing the Trinity
Robert Farrar Capon rightly mocks Christians who conceive of the persons of the Trinity as players on the sidelines taking turns at substitution.
Phillip Yancey: Can Good Come Out of This Evil?
"You people in the sunshine may believe the faith, but we in the shadow must believe it."
Yancey: The Last Deist
We need more than a just watchmaker who winds up the universe and lets it tick.
Yancey: Why I Can Feel Your Pain
The "politically correct" movement often positions itself as an enemy of Christianity. Ironically, the gospel contributed the underpinnings that make the movement possible.
Yancey: What The Prince of Egypt Won't Tell You
The Old Testament should come with a warning: Don't read Exodus without also reading Deuteronomy.
Philip Yancey: What's a Heaven For?
Lewis saw belief in heaven not as wishful thinking, but as thoughtful wishing.
Yancey: The Fox and the Writer
I felt a thrilling flashback to Eden, when the barrier of fear had not yet arisen between the species.
Phillip Yancey: Fear and Faith in the Middle East
As I remember my trip to Lebanon, I think how easy it is to write about the gospel from my serene perch in Colorado.
Yancey: And the Word Was ... Debatable
All those who take up the daunting task of Bible translation step into a force field of tension.
Yancey: A Cure for Spiritual Deafness
Relevance, we have surely mastered. What would happen if we sought a little irrelevance?
Yancey: Jesus' Unanswered Prayers
When Jesus prayed to the one who could save him from death, he did not get that salvation; he got instead the salvation of the world.
The Jesus We Never Got
Elijah stands for what I want in a God: someone to offer an escape route around life's messiest problems.
Yancey: A Bad Week in Hell
"How could Satan possibly allow it?"
Yancey: Chords That Bind
I experienced common grace, perhaps consciously for the first time, through music.
Yancey: Jesus and the Big Bang
The Apollo missions, the greatest technological achievement of our species, gave the first real glimpse of our puny place in the universe.
Yancey: Jesus, the Reluctant Miracle Worker
Clearly, Jesus did not come to solve "the problem of pain" while on earth.
