Burying The Past: Legacy of the Mountain Meadows Massacre

Talk About It
Discussion starters
  1. Exodus 34:7 says God "punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." Do you think that's true—or fair? Do you think that's what has happened in the story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre?

  2. Should a modern-day generation of people be held accountable for the sins of its forefathers? Why or why not?

  3. Can true forgiveness happen without a confession or an apology by the offending party? What did Jesus mean when he said we should forgive "seventy times seven?" (Matthew 18:21-22) Can you think of someone whom you need to forgive?

The Family Corner
For parents to consider

While this movie is not rated, its massacre re-enactments are violent and intended for mature audiences. There is no nudity or vulgar language.

Bad things happen to good people all the time. Are we missing the point that it happenedon 9-11.... What is God trying to tell us

It was not good to murder them. Do you know why it did happen? Have you ever studied what happened to the mormon pioneers in Missouri? I am not justifing what they did, but anger goes a long way. The mormons where persecuted, MURDERED(Yes murdered),crops burned, homes burned, forced to leave their homes and possesions stolen. Govenor Boggs even had an extermination order put out on mormons if they did not leave the state. Then there was a group of women and children that were kicked out of the place they were staying together, a 100 or so, out into a snow storm in the middle of the night. Many frooze and died, yet no one seems to care about all those atrocities that were done to the mormons. NO ONE HAS EVER APPOLOGIZED FOR THOSE THINGS DONE TO THEM EITHER. I am not trying to justify, but the mormons had a right to be angry with this group, they persecuted the mormons earlier. Hopefully, in the future things will be worked out.
