Talk About It
Discussion starters
- Have you ever suffered in such a way that your faith in God was shaken?
- What really went wrong in Haven? What does the film suggest was the sin that brought on such judgment?
- Does the film's style encourage viewers to think about serious issues? Do you think the filmmakers were more interested in making us think, or making us jump?
- Does the behavior of God in this movie remind you of the God that Christ taught about?
- What do you make of the story of the real plagues in the Old Testament? Was God's punishment of Pharaoh and Egypt "fair"? Why or why not?
The Family Corner
For parents to consider
The Reaping is rated R for violence, disturbing images and some sexuality. Take the rating seriously. The characters use some profanity, but the film's greatest offense is its excessively grotesque imagery. Animals and people are shown in varying states of injury and decay. And there's a scene of extramarital sex in an appealing, romantic way (even though the film contradicts that sense of romance later).
