We finally have a track listing! Wind-Up Records has finally announced the contributors to the much-awaited The Passion of The Christ: Songs project they're spearheading, and the list of artists moved by the greatest story ever told is eclectic to say the least. The first single, "Relearn Love" by former Creed frontman Scott Stapp, releases to radio this week. There's something here for everyone: adult contemporary, rock, R&B/Soul, gospel, country, and more. The full listing:
The Passion of the Christ: Songs
Third Day/Steven Curtis Chapman/Mercy Me: "I See Love"
Scott Stapp: "Relearn Love"
P.O.D.: "Truly Amazing"
Brad Paisley and Sara Evans: "New Again"
Big Dismal: "Rainy Day"
Lauryn Hill: "The Passion"
Kirk Franklin (featuring Yolanda Adams): "How Many Lashes"
MxPx (featuring Mark Hoppus): "The Empire"
Charlotte Church: "Finding My Way"
BeBe Winans and Angie Stone: "Miracle of Love"
Dan Lavery: "To Give Love"
Big Dismal" "Reason I Live"
Another star-studded lineup is that of the Republican National Convention, to be held at New York's Madison Square Garden between August 30 and September 2. Performing at the important GOP gathering will be Michael W. Smith, Donnie McClurkin, Jaci Velasquez, Jonny Lang, the Blind Boys of Alabama, as well as a bevy of country artists that I feel more comfortable giving you a link for. (Meanwhile, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and those outspoken Dixie Chicks head up another political lineup, a series of shows called Vote for Change—aimed at removing George Bush from the White House.)
The Athens Olympics are almost upon us, and Delirious will be there—not as competitors, but as performers, headlining the August 14 Opening Night Olympic Celebrations at Omonia Square in Athens. The Olympics, held August 13-29, will attract an estimated 4 billion TV viewers—but there's no word on whether the Delirious gig will be televised …
Besides keeping busy with touring and soundtrack contributions, P.O.D.'s Sonny Sandoval is also venturing out into the world of gaming. An avid videogame freak himself, Sandoval has signed on as investor, music director, and on-camera talent for video gaming events company Gamecaster. The company is planning to turn the video gaming industry into a televised, sports-type franchise similar to the X Games, with Sandoval acting as Pit Reporter during the competitions and selecting bands to perform at the events.
If you missed Robert Randolph and the Family Band during their acclaimed run with Eric Clapton for his summer tour, you'll be able to catch them in the opening slot of Lenny Kravitz's upcoming Baptism Tour, which will hit 20 or so markets throughout September and October.
And if you've been wondering whether Word Records did its homework with The Best of Sixpence None the Richer (releasing October 26), the answer is "kind of." The final track listing includes a ton of cover songs ("There She Goes," "Dancing Queen," "Don't Dream It's Over," "I Need Love"), some of their poppiest tunes (two versions of "Kiss Me," "Breathe Your Name"), plus a number of unreleased gems and rarities ("Us," "Too Far Gone," "Loser Like Me"). Hardcore Amy Grant fans may find even more puzzling the track listing for Amy Grant's Greatest Hits 1986-2004 (due October 12). Who handpicks these things?
