Sandra McCracken
In Feast or Fallow (Sandra McCracken)
Our Rating5 Stars - Masterpiece
Your Ratingcomment

Style: Indie/folk worship; compare to Nichole Nordeman, the Weepies, Denison Witmer

Top tracks: "Can't Help Myself," "New Wonders," "In Feast or Fallow"

Since her 2005 release The Builder and the Architect, an album of hymns, Sandra McCracken has revisited hymn composition, and now presents us with perhaps the most beautiful, poignant collection on this side of the century. Chords familiar to the ears of churchgoers weave through lovely soundscapes, producing a comfortable, progressive sound on hymns both old ("Give Reviving," "Amazing Grace") and new. The verses are especially significant as they help bridge the gap sometimes felt between ourselves and our Savior, reminding us that we "are small, but we are filled with breath and life," and we cannot hide from grace.

I posted a comment on May 2 and ended with, "I must be honest." Honestly, I was VERY WRONG about this album. I should have stated that I am 'no great HIM mind'. I can't stop listening to this wonderful collection of hymns. Please forgive my previous comment/rating. Can the Moderators delete??

I loved this album. It was something refreshing, and different. Occasionally, her voice reminded me of Sheryl Crow, with the depth of Nichole Nordeman. Well done!

Having grown up with traditional hymns; I am a bit of a sucker for hymns albums. Yet, this collection, greatly, disappoints me. I am no 'great hymn mind', but ONLY Sandra's Amazing Grace rendition is familiar to me. I would have much prefered that at least 7 or 8 of these tracks to have been familiar. Also, I found most of the tracks to be a bit boring. No offense, but I must be honest.
