Style: Quiet, contemplative folk; compare to Gordon Lightfoot, Natalie Merchant, Over the Rhine

Top tracks: "God Is Love," "Rain (Setting Out in the Leaf Boat)," "All the Weather"

The promise of spring. The hope of Easter. The beauty of creation. These are all familiar images for The Innocence Mission, but they're particularly prevalent on My Room in the Trees, the group's finest album in some time. These days singer Karen Peris and husband Don spend more time nurturing their flesh-and-blood children than their musical ones, and that's where the inspiration from this one came—from simple observations on the walk home from school. It's typically meditative, emphasizing quiet and poetry over all else, but strings and piano make it one of their richest-sounding albums yet.
