After more than a decade of helping his band, downhere, make critically acclaimed albums in the CCM market, bass player Glenn Lavender and longtime friend Kalyn Allan, both of Cambridge, Ontario, teamed up for a side project—and it's a good one. What started out as a whim—they tried to write a song for a made-for-TV movie, but were beaten out by Michael Buble—turned into a year of songwriting and now an album that would be fit nicely on Sufjan Stevens' Asthmatic Kitty label. Creative melodies, thoughtful lyrics celebrating love both human and divine, and Allan's mesmerizing vocals add up to what one can only hope is the first of many CDs from Hark the Herons.
