Style: Worship; compare to NewSong, Aaron Shust, FFH

Top tracks: "For the Better," "Reveal," "It's All Good"

Just as many contemporary Sunday morning services consist of a mix of classic hymns, modern worship hits, the "relevant" indie song, and quiet anthems of emotive spirituality, so also Reveal offers a wide assortment of styles. Featuring a Ron Kenoly-esque horn section, twinkling synths, and even a few funk beats, these 11 tracks traverse a vast array of worship trends. While this hodgepodge formula can certainly make for an engaging worship service, in recorded album format it feels too erratic. And the lyrics are derivative and routine. Too many musical styles and not enough lyrical creativity can make an earnest worship album both unfocused and clichéd.

I'm disappointed in your review. I've heard this CD thanks to a friend and I found many of the songs quite moving. I especially enjoyed Exalted is Your Name. A simple song with simple lyrics, but the power to bring the presence of God to worshiping people. I personally see nothing wrong with filling a CD with various worship songs. It gives me choices based on my mood.

I am surprised at your 2 star rating. When I listened to this CD, I enjoyed the diverse musical styles, as each of us has different tastes. I have talked to many people, and each one had a different favorite song, and was moved, from each song in a particular way. As you know, our Lord wants to touch many...thus Reveal's vast array of Praise and Worship is a sharp instrument to do just that.
