Thorn Shadow
Oil, wax, and tar on wood
By Dan Addington

"This is a meditation on the powerful ability of pared-down symbols to communicate profound truths. I believe that the juxtaposition of the materials (dark tar absorbing light, and fleshy, translucent wax holding and embodying light) seems to echo the sense of weighty darkness in the narrative of the events leading up to the Passion, existing at once with a glowing sense of light pointing to the transcendent nature of the crucifixion, and the promise it held."
