The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, 1498, Woodcut
From Revelation 6:1 - 8

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is one of the 15 woodcuts that Dürer published in The Apocalypse, the first artist-designed book. Readers had to flip the page for the accompanying text to each image. Two editions of The Apocalypse were published in 1498: "One was with the Latin text of the Bible, and the other one was a German translation of the Bible that [Anton] Koburger [Dürer's godfather] had done," Heller says — a savvy move for a businessman who wanted to appeal to the middle class.
