Partial-birth Abortion
The Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, passed by Congress and signed by President Bush in 2003, was upheld by the Supreme Court on April 18, 2007 by a 5-4 vote in the consolidated cases of Gonzales v. Carhart and Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood. The court indicated that its ruling about specific abortion procedures, known as D&E, did not overturn previous rulings, including Roe v. Wade. Below is Christianity Today's coverage of the 2003 act as well as partial-birth abortion bans that were twice vetoed in the '90s. Our Life Ethics area has more articles on the South Dakota abortion ban and related topics.
