The Party struggled to come up with a 2012 presidential candidate who seemed to resonate with evangelical voters. During the 2012 Republican primary, a group of politically active religious leaders endorsed Rick Santorum, who eventually lost to Mitt Romney, who raised questions over his Mormon faith.
