"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus." Ephesians 2:6 (NIV)

If you're anything like me, sometimes it doesn't take much to discourage you in your daily walk of faith. It seems that even the smallest things can make us wonder why we even bother to follow Jesus. It's just too hard, we think.

But God always seems ready to give us the proper perspective. Recently, my wife, Amy, gave me a chance to think again about who we are in Christ. I share it because I believe that it will also be encouraging to you.

Like other little girls, my daughter, Kylie, wants to be a princess. She hears the fairy tales and sees how beautiful the princesses are. One day last month she asked Amy, "Mommy, can I be a princess?"

Some parents might have just said "when you're older" or "maybe," but not Amy. She knows who we are in Christ. Without blinking an eye, she replied, "Honey, when you believe in Jesus, you're already a princess."

Those few words reduced a normally talkative four-year-old to silence. For at least a minute, she furrowed her brow and processed the information, then moved on to something else. Somehow, in her young mind, what Amy had said to her made all the sense in the world. Of course God would make her a princess. It would be crazy to think he wouldn't.

Christians can be a ragtag bunch of hurting people, but we're also royalty—sons and daughters of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We have Jesus' word on it. So the next time you feel discouraged, imagine the crown on your head and remember that there's kingdom work to be done.
