God Cares
October 30, 2001

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

My wife likes to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. If Amy's not worried about our anemic checkbook, she's worried about whether Kylie will eat her lunch at preschool or some other thing.

To be fair, though, I also do my share of worrying, and I'm sure you do, too. With the war in Afghanistan, anthrax scares, and the threat of more terror attacks, it's easy to be caught up in fear and worry.

But do you know that we don't have to worry? Sure, we need to plan and use common sense in our lives. But we don't need to stay up nights worrying.

The reason for this, of course, is that the job of Creator and Sustainer of the Universe is already taken. Put another way, God is the C.E.O. who isn't planning to retire anytime soon. He created us and loves us. That's why God tells us to "cast all your anxiety on him."

God sees from the beginning to the end, and he knows what's in our best interests, even if we don't. As my wife is fond of saying, it isn't faith if you know what's going to happen.
