Read Mark 4:36-41

Katy talked about being excited that God answered her prayer and gave her more time with her grandfather. She was glad to be convinced that God listens to our prayers. She feels closer to God now. That's good to know because closeness is what prayer is all about. We don't pray to get stuff; we pray to get closer to God.

Prayer is about recognizing God's presence in your life. And when you see it, you'll be glad (of course), but also a little nervous. Notice, in the passage you read today, that the disciples were terrified! Why? Because God answered their prayers — and it made them realize just how powerful God is!

So, be careful what you ask for — you just might get it!

What about You?
1. Have you ever been afraid of God? When? Why?
2. Make a list of what you are afraid of. Someone has said that our fears are kind of weird because they tell us what matters to us (like, if we're afraid of being ugly, we really want to be liked).
3. Ask God to help you want him, more than stuff from him.
