The Best of SCC
In a past interview with Campus Life, you said songwriting helps you clarify what you think or believe. Has that remained true?
Yeah. I think songs still do that. And you know what? I feel like such a fortunate guy. I have this career, something I can make a living on, that allows me to explore my spiritual journey.
What have been some of the great things about your 10 years in Christian music?
I'm just flooded with all these memories. Like, how do you pick a few?
Speaking purely about things that connect with my career, I'd have to say my first Dove Award. My first Grammy Award.
I've had some really great opportunities, too, like working with Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship ministry. Going into prisons and singing, giving my testimony, has been very rewarding to me. It's helped me "connect" to the world around me.
I'd also have to mention my first tour with a band. My first music video. You know, all the firsts. And I can't leave out my family. My marriage to Mary Beth. The birth of my children …
Anything else you'd like to say?
Oh (smiling broadly), another highlight would be my first cover on Campus Life magazine!
I didn't tell you to say that, right?
Right.
