Last summer, Michael W. Smith premiered his hit single, "Live the Life," before thousands of you at the DC/LA '97 youth conferences. The song, written specifically for the DC/LA events, encourages Christians to show others the truth by consistently living the truth. "For the world to see," sings Michael, "there can be no greater proof, than to live the life."
On his newest CD, Live the Life (Reunion), Michael offers several songs that reaffirm the message of the title tune. Yet the lyrics on this disc don't just challenge us to be bold about our faith. Songs like the acoustic-driven "Never Been Unloved" remind us of God's great love, even when we fail.
Musically, the album offers the kind of straight-up pop fans of MWS have come to expect. Even so, there are some musical surprises, served up with a good deal of creativity. "Missing Persons," for instance, is sparked with rock energy and smooth, understated vocals. And "Love Me Good" is gospel-flavored dance-pop delivered with lively vocal energy.
As a former Grammy-winning artist, Michael has experienced a good deal of success on both the secular and Christian music scenes. But regardless of where his music shows up, he consistently offers solid sounds that challenge us to … live the life.
