8 Surf Music Born. n this day in '61, the Beach Boys released "Surfin'." It only hit No. 75 on the charts, but a new wave had begun.
14 South Pole Discovered. Dude named Roald Amundsen and some friends found the bottom of the world today in 1911.
18 Steven Spielberg's Birthday. Three cheers for the man who brought us ET, Indiana Jones and the dyno dinos of Jurassic Park.
21 Humbug Day. You're allowed to say "humbug" up to 12 times today.
26 National Whiner's Day. We just had "Humbug Day." Do we really need this one too?
28 Chewing Gum Invented. In 1869, William Semple patented "the combination of rubber with other articles adapted to the formation of an acceptable chewing gum." When you put it that way, yuck.
