Pumped for P.O.D.
Thank you so much for the amazing article about P.O.D. ("On the Front Lines," May/June)! I love this band! I took a friend whose girlfriend had committed suicide the month before, and he was totally touched when he got to meet the band after the show.
A lot of people are quick to judge P.O.D. by their appearance or the shows they choose to play. Thank you for representing them so positively. God is going to use this band and many others to start a revival. … just watch! Ann Pyle Sacramento, California Perplexed by P.O.D.
Even though P.O.D. claims to be a Christian band, there are some things I don't understand. First, God is a God of life and love and light, so why do they dress all in black? Some Christian bands, in their attempt to attract a "crowd," imitate the style of many secular bands, and I don't think that's good. I'd like to see a rock band that's Christian and has its own style and doesn't imitate the somewhat dirty appearance secular rock bands have. When God really calls you into a ministry, you don't need a certain look to attract people, because the one who touches hearts and changes minds is God, not us. I pray that God will guide all those bands who claim to be Christian, and that he will show them the way he wants them to be, and not just the way people expect them to be. Patricia Rodriquez Miami, Florida Inspired by Knapp
I appreciated reading Jennifer Knapp's testimony, "I Didn't Like Christians" (May/June). I've been a Jennifer Knapp fan ever since I saw her at Creation Festival West Coast '98, and her lyrics have been a real inspiration. I never knew she was into sex and drinking before she became a Christian. I figured she was raised in a conservative Christian home. Reading her story made me do a double-take. I never cease to be amazed at how far God can bring people in such a short time. He truly is the God of second chances. Jack Jeffries Spanaway, Washington You Missed One!
I really enjoyed your article on music alternatives to Blink 182 ("Don't Blink," May/June). However, you failed to mention a very "Blink-sounding" Christian punk band, Relient K. They have some solid rock lyrics and a sweet punk sound that anyone can jam to. Tyler Sellhorn Rockford, Michigan Nothin' But the Truth!
We just finished reading "17 Truths You Won't Learn From Ads" (May/June). We had a good laugh while recognizing the truths in this article. Number 17 is the best! Heather & Rhiannon O'Neill Auckland, New Zealand
Annoyed by Your Advice
Overall, I like your "Love, Sex & Real Life" column (March/April). But I'm annoyed by your overemphasis on association with only Christians.
You urge readers to seek guidance from Christian friends, or to make sure they're dating only Christians. I find this insulting. I'm not a Christian, but I consider myself a moral person. I'm not sexually promiscuous, I don't do drugs or drink, and I am not a Satanist. Although I don't share the same religious beliefs as many of my friends, I can still be a positive influence and a good friend.
