Why's Avril So Complicated?
Mark Matlock answers your questions

Avril Lavigne's against dressing like Britney Spears or being super sexual. But she's kinda angry, gets in fights and swears. What's your take on Avril?

A. Talk about complicated! Avril is hard to figure out, isn't she? She stands up for certain morals—but like you said, she also makes some wrong choices. The truth is, Avril is a very real person like you or me with some very positive strengths, but also some weaknesses.

On the plus side, Avril is very confident and happy being herself. She's a strong and independent young woman whose music very much feels like her music. Raised in Canada by Christian parents, Avril says her morals matter to her. She doesn't wear revealing outfits or sing much about sex.

However, while Avril sings about saying no to a boyfriend's sexual advances, she also sings about beating him up (something she is reported to have done to both guys and girls). She doesn't swear much in her music, but she swears in interviews, is reported to drink a lot, and loves to flip off photographers.

Really, the bottom line is that Avril isn't the best role model. Because we don't get to really know Avril as a person, it's hard to figure out what she's all about. Instead, I suggest you pray for God to help her make wise decisions and use her strengths and influence in positive ways.
