Texts From My Ex
Answer by Carla Barnhill

Q. The girl I was dating broke up with me a few months ago. I accepted her feelings, but now I get mixed messages. We talk only a little at Bible study, school and at church—giving me the idea that she doesn't even want to be my friend. But then, she'll send me long text messages that lead us to texting back and forth for days. I don't know if she likes me—and I don't know what I should do if she does.

A. I don't think she's texting you to try to win you back or to hurt you. In fact, she probably doesn't have any idea how much this messes with your mind.  She's probably just looking for attention and she knows you always cared for her. Even so, what she's doing is still awfully confusing for you. I'd encourage you not to feel like you have to play this game. If you want to text her back, then do so. But don't feel obligated or pressured to text back. And don't read into it. Most of all, don't let her need for a little attention dictate your feelings or the direction your dating life takes from here.

Carla is an editor of the Teen Devotional Bible (Zondervan).
