If you know all about clocking in, working hard, closing up and cashing checks, you're in good company. Almost half of Campus Life readers hold down jobs, mostly part-time. And the other half will be joining them in the work force soon enough. The fact is, working is a big part of life for just about everybody.

So here's a look at the wide, wild world of work, based on info from our jobs survey. Give yourself a snack break and take a look!

36% of you babysit

Beth, 18 babysitter
"The best part about babysitting is that it's fun. I get to be creative with the kids, and it works around my schedule. And it's good money. I paid my whole way to Ecuador for a missions trip within a few months of baby sitting last year."

"Kids—I love them!"

Sarah, 20

"I was dancing to Veggie Tales while babysitting when a cute pizza guy rang the doorbell. Too bad the door was open."

Jessica, 16

Employee Embarrassments

What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you at work?

Greg, 18computer specialist aid, Georgetown, Texas:
On my first day at work, I was asked to completely take apart a computer and then put it back together. I did a great job of taking it apart, but when I put it back together and turned it on, I blew the thing up. It was totalled, and I was rather embarrassed.

Kristin, 18cashier, Janesville, Wisconsin:
I was trying to announce over the intercom that there was a red '93 Ford in the parking lot with its lights on, but I forgot to say, "with its lights on" so I ended up just saying, "Attention customers: There is a red '93 Ford in the parking lot!"

Danielle, 17coffehouse server, Byron Center, Michigan:
I was sitting on the stool behind the counter talking to one of our regular customers, and I hadn't noticed the stool was on the tile. I thought I was on the carpet, so I leaned back. As soon as I did, the stool flipped out and I landed on my rear. Not the coolest thing I've ever done.

Faith, 17restaurant hostess, Fairbanks, Alaska:
One day I had to dig in the trash can to find a little boy's retainer. It was so gross!

Bethany, 15fast food server, Woodstock, Ontario, Canada:
My second day at work, another employee came up and said to me, "Hey, you changed your hair!" Then he looked at me again and said, "I don't even know you!"

Natalie, 16lifeguard, New Bern, North Carolina:
I had to fish a very live mouse out of the deep end of the pool. It took me 20 minutes!

Jason, 18camp staffer, Levelland, Texas:
I got thrown in the horse trough for being late to morning staff devotions. It wasn't pretty.

Ryan, 18
The Filling Station
"I have three sisters who work here, and my brother helps out sometimes. I kind of got the job from my sister. Working here is fun. It's not too hard, I work with cool people, and I make pretty good money. It's a good job for a kid my age."
