Monster Dessert Attacks City!
Cold treats like ice cream and popsicles are great, cooling treats in hot weather—but not if they're chasing you!
Snapple, a juice company known for its fruity flavors, wanted to promote a new line of frozen desserts on a summer day. So the company set up a 25-foot-tall Popsicle in downtown New York City. Sound cool? It was—well, until the kiwi–strawberry–flavored treat began melting from the summer's heat.
The mayhem started with a gentle trickle. But soon, a half ton of sugary goo started flooding Union Square and downtown Manhattan. Pedestrians ran to find higher ground. Firefighters were called to block off streets and used their hoses to wash away the mess. In the end, Snapple learned that a big publicity splash shouldn't splash quite so much. Dial–A–Dog
You're away on vacation and had to leave your dog at home. Sure, the neighbors are taking care of him, but still, you feel a bit guilty. You still miss him. Don't fret! Now, you can just give him a call on his cell phone!
That's right, the new PetsCell from PetsMobility is specifically designed to fit on your dog's collar. After you dial the number, the phone rings once and then picks up. Your dog will be able to hear your voice and you'll be able to hear his barking response. You can even train him to respond over the phone to commands like "sit" or "play dead." Of course, in that case you should probably sign up for a plan with lots of "rollover" minutes. Plane vs. Porsche
Next time you're driving near an airport, beware: You could turn into a portable landing strip. At least that's what happened in Germany a while back.
A Porsche club was at a small airport one day racing the high–priced cars. As one Porsche zoomed around the runways, a one–man plane came in for a landing and plopped right down on top of it—doing a perfect landing on the car's roof. Luckily, neither man was hurt. But the more extraordinary thing is that the car was going fast enough that the plane stayed balanced on the roof until the alarmed driver hit the car's brakes. There is no way they could have timed the perfect landing this well even if they tried (which Ignite Your Faith does not recommend). $500 Tooth Saves the Day!
Youth groups are always looking for creative ways to help charities. From taking pledges to camping in the cold to holding penny offerings, there's a lot of crazy ways to raise money. But very few youth groups are going to borrow the charity idea from an 8-year-old in South Dakota: Donate teeth. That's right, teeth.
Last fall, the Red Cross got an envelope from little Briton Nordemeyer. In the package was a letter saying that she wanted to help people displaced by last year's hurricanes. Instead of money, Briton sent one of her teeth because she figured the tooth fairy would leave payment for the tooth with the Red Cross. After word got out about Briton's generosity, $500 was donated anonymously. Boy, when you were losing teeth, you thought a dollar was big–time!
