Tidbits & Trivia

Rachael on the Road

Rachael Lampa has been busy. In the last 18 months, she has finished two CDs (Kaleidoscope and Blur, both on Word Records), graduated from high school, and toured the world—including a trip to Amsterdam, where she posed for the above picture for a Dutch Christian magazine.

Rachael, 18, says she gets homesick a lot while on the road, but that she learns something everywhere she goes.

"I feel that every conversation I have, every person I meet, is feeding me wisdom," she says. "I'm learning so much, finding myself challenged as a Christian. I am often reminded that I still have a long way to go.

"God has put me in a unique position to be a positive role model for other teens, and I basically want them to see I'm no different than they are. I've struggled with grades and curfews right along with them."

Rachael says she sometimes feels stressed out and wishes she had everything all figured out. But her mom reminds her that "I don't need to be perfect, and I don't have to know everything about life or Christianity. This is a journey. I like the image in 2 Corinthians about us being jars of clay. I see everything as preparing me to be a light for God."

Rockin' with Audio A

Just before releasing their first CD, Say It Loud (Sparrow), Christian rockers Sanctus Real did a handful of shows with Audio Adrenaline, whose frontman, Mark Stuart, calls Sanctus Real an "incredible band!" Pictured (L-R) are SR's Chris Rohman and Mark Graalman, AA's Mark Stuart, SR's Steve Goodrum, AA's Ben Cissell and Will McGinniss, and SR's Matt Hammitt. (More: sanctusreal.com)

Music Devos … Just for You

Rebecca St. James is sometimes lonely. Jennifer Knapp struggles with selfishness. The three sisters in Out of Eden used to fight all the time.

You can read their stories in Walk, a new devotional book for high school girls. Featuring 52 devotionals and insights from more than 30 female Christian artists, Walk covers the things you deal with daily—body image, relationships, loneliness, purity, and much more. Each devotional includes a Bible reading, plus questions to help you reflect and act on what you're learning.

The book, compiled by Campus Life magazine, is the first in a new series of books for teens from Tyndale House. More: tyndale.com.

No Compromise

Tree63, a Christian rock band from South Africa, had a shot at a major mainstream record contract. But when the record company asked them to take God out of their lyrics, the band said no way. A song on their latest CD, The Life & Times of Absolute Truth (inpop), says, "They tell me to abandon you to make my dreams come true / But what am I supposed to do when I only dream of you?" Another Dixie Chick?

If you're into country or bluegrass music, check out guitar whiz Krystal Miller, a 16-year-old Kentucky singer who also plays mandolin, clarinet and piano. Krystal, a straight-A student at Muhlenberg North High School, has a CD called Ready to Go and a radio single called, "What More Could He Have Done?" Krystal says she's "on a mission to bring the joy of Jesus and the good ol' country gospel style of playing and singing" to her audience. (More: send e-mail to millers3-@muhlon.com)
