The Latin Beat
 1 of 2

If you like Latin pop, there are plenty of good Christian alternatives. Three of the best recent CDs—in English, but with a Latin flavor—come from One Voice Records, a Christian label specializing in Latin music:
Freddie Colloca, sort of Christian musics answer to Ricky Martin, gives us Dance El Ritmo (which means "Dance the Rhythm"). The CDs title track invites listeners to "catch the rhythm" of life in Christ.
Alvaro Lopez, considered by some to be one of the best drummers on the planet, will get you boppin to the beat on The Alvaro Lopez Project.
Ileana Garces cant hold back her love for God on Dare to Love, a joyful celebration of faith. Ileana's parents founded the One Voice label, and her mom co-wrote all the songs on the CD.
You might also want to check out these recent Spanish-language CDs from Christian artists: The KatinasDestino (Gotee), Fernando OrtegasCamino Largo (Word), and Jaci VelasquezsMi Corazon (Word).

Hes Got Soul
Sisqo isnt the only former member of the red-hot R&B group Dru Hill to go solo. Now comes Soul Music (Gospo Centric) the debut CD from Woody Rock, one of Dru Hills founders and a longtime friend of Sisqo's.
Woodys solo sound is a good mix of R&B, hip-hop and urban grooves, but he calls it Soul Music because "theres nothing better for your soul, or more from your soul, than gospel music." Dru Hill and Mary Mary both appear on the CD. More info: www.woodyrock.com
Where Bebo Be?
Singer/songwriter Bebo Norman recently traveled to Brazil, where he visited 5-year-old Wallef Martins Cardoso, a child he sponsors through Compassion International. Bebo says that meeting Wallef "was really incredible." If you or your youth group are interested in sponsoring a needy child ($28/month), go to www.compassion.com. Oh, and check out Bebos latest album, Big Blue Sky (Essential).
The Original Jesus Freaks
If you think dc talks Jesus Freak, released in 1995, is an "old" CD, think again. Contemporary Christian music goes back a lot further than that! Learn more from these two fine books:
Raised by Wolves: The Story of Christian Rock & Roll (ECW Press). John J. Thompson, a longtime Christian rocker and founder of True Tunes Records (www.truetunes.com), has written a wonderful history, where youll meet such pioneers as Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill and Keith Green.
The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music (CCM Books) is a great overview of the best of em all. Go all the way back to 1972s Only Visiting this Planet, a timeless classic from Larry Norman, voted No. 2 in the list. No. 1? Find out for yourself!
Yule Love These!
Look for new Christmas CDs this year from Jaci Velasquez (Word) and NewSong (Benson), plus a six-song holiday EP from Stacie Orrico (ForeFront). And dont miss these holiday compilations: Happy Christmas 3 (BEC/Tooth & Nail), including Supertones, Relient K, Bleach and Earthsuit; God Bless Us, Everyone! A Squint Christmas Collection (Squint), including Sixpence, PFR, Waterdeep, and L.A. Symphony; and Songs 4 Worship Christmas (Integrity/TimeLife).
