WHEN FOUNDATIONS TREMBLE

A Leadership Forum: How pastors can stand firm amid the cultural quakes.

One analyst termed today's cultural shifts "socio-quakes." Seismic forces are shaping and reshaping the landscape. Churches can't avoid the tremors, and pastors wonder how to build solid ministries that can withstand the shaking.

LEADERSHIP invited four "cultural seismologists" to help interpret the shock waves: Leith Anderson, pastor of Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, has focused on what makes for effective ministry in a changing society. He is the author of two penetrating critiques of the church and culture, Dying for Change, and A Church for the 21st Century.

Ed Dobson, pastor of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was an influential member of the Moral Majority during the 1980s. In recent years, his efforts have taken a significantly different turn as you'll see in this interview. His soon-to-be-published book is about developing a contemporary "seekers' service" in a traditional church.
