With Ban Lifted, Should Women Serve in Combat?
The Pentagon recently announced that it is overturning a 1994 rule banning women from serving in combat. This will allow the hundreds of thousands of women on active duty to serve in front-line positions and potentially in special operations forces, such as the Navy SEALS and the Army's Delta Force.
Although many have applauded this move, others, including Marine Captain Katie Petronio, question whether women are prepared to endure prolonged combat operations.
Christianity Today compares three perspectives on women in combat, asking what the warrior women in the Bible can contribute to the discussion.
At First Things, Joe Carter echoes C. S. Lewis, saying that "Battles are Ugly When Women Fight."
But Kate Shellnutt at Her.meneutics reminds us that women have been serving in dangerous military roles long before the lifted ban.
