Perspective on the buzz

The heat that Arkansas Christians are packing may soon be more than just the Holy Spirit. In a 28-4 vote, the Arkansas state senate moved to repeal the current ban on handguns in places of worship.

While State Senator Bryan King advocates that the "Church Protection Act" will increase church safety, not all of his fellow politicians agreed. State Senator Linda Chesterfield said "If there was one person who was anti-violent, it was my lord and savior Jesus Christ." (Video after the jump.)

In other news, Christianity Today reports on researcher Carl Chinn's findings that guns were used in 60% of all deadly attacks at churches in 2012. This is part of an increase in church violence that has prompted pastors to consider church security anew.
