Barna: Pro Athletes More Influential than Faith Leaders
The Super Bowl is past, but here's a statistic that will stick around for a while: "Two-Thirds of Americans Say Pro Athletes Have More Influence on Society Than Faith Leaders."
"Sports figures are deemed most influential by those making $60,000-plus, college graduates, whites and parents. Those most likely to select faith leaders were weekly church attenders and those with incomes under $40,000."
Before you sack the pulpit for the gridiron, though, you should scan the full report. Not everyone is convinced that public declarations of faith on the field actually do that much to change fans' minds or hearts.
