Perspective on the buzz

Sports Illustrated recently ran an article in which NBA player Jason Collins came out as homosexual. The media reaction has been largely positive, in support of this cultural milestone. In discussing the story, Chris Broussard, an ESPN reporter and analyst, outlined his Christian faith and opposition to homosexuality (in context, he was praising open dialogue and understanding regarding the issue).

Christian author and activist Andrew Marin supports Collins's announcement, saying it's "a step in the right direction."

Barnabas Piper condemns reactions to this announcement that embody fear. But he is supportive of Broussard, whose "statement came from conviction, not fear."

John Piper, too, praised Broussard, saying his comments were "solid steel in a world of cattails."
