Perspective on the buzz

Battles around religious liberty are in the news again recently.

First, a Texas track team was disqualified from advancing to the state championship after one of the team's runners pointed upward to God in an act of celebration. Proponents of the ruling note that any celebration violate the rules of the competition, but opponents say it infringes upon the student's right to religious freedom. Either way, the students will not be allowed additional opportunities to qualify for state.

Also of note, a federal judge has granted Tyndale House Publishers a reprieve on the birth control mandate to provide access to contraceptives such as Plan B and IUDs. Tyndale considers these contraceptives no different from abortion.
