"White guys in Compton? Sign me up!"
Kenny Luck, a contributor to this week's devos, writes in Dream, his latest book, "I knew I wouldn't have any trouble recruiting men from South Orange County to join me on a project in South Central Los Angeles."
Why is that?
"Call it what you want," writes Kenny, "significance, contribution, glory, value—it's what we're all after. We want our experience to matter somehow, to factor in, to produce something redemptive—and do something that transcends daily life. In fact, the more improbable, challenging, and potentially dangerous the opportunity, the more intrigued some men become."
"Someone has to break the mold. Someone has to do what's needed. Someone has to make others feel valued."
"It's like man to want to be served," Kenny concludes. "It's like the Son of Man to serve. It's like God's man to reflect the Son of Man." That sums up what this week is about.
Until next week,

Like Father, Like Son by Todd Wilson
Hey Dad,
This morning started out leisurely … just the three of us lying in bed at 6:20 a.m. … me, my wife, and Abe, our two-year-old human locomotive. I tried to avoid eye contact with him, knowing that he would counteract with pinching my nose or sitting on my head.
Most mornings I hear the pitter patter of little feet and then an unnerving stillness as he stands within a foot of my face. "Eat! eat!" he announces. Not "Good morning, father; how did you sleep?" Just the sleep shattering, "Eat! eat!"

The Celestial Con Man Could it be that my disappointing experience was God's intent? by James Walters
Until recently, "con man" was not one of my metaphors for God. But as I reflect upon a recent ministry experience, it seems totally appropriate. Let me explain.
Three years ago, my wife and I accepted a "call" to pack up our belongings, say goodbye to everyone we knew, and move 3,000 miles away to minister to young adults on the West Coast.
