The Official Newsletter of MomSense Tuesday, May 6, 2008
From baby steps to milestones, our lives are filled with firsts and lasts. In the May/June issue of MomSense magazine, we’ll delve deeper into this sometimes bittersweet experience in mothering.
Our children’s firsts often become our firsts. I vividly remember the first time I dropped off my 14-month-old son at MOPS. Jan, the MOPPETS Leader, undoubtedly saw my anxious-new-mom look, as my mind raced through everything that could possibly go wrong in the nursery. My eyes filled with tears. Then Jan lovingly held my son in her arms and told me not to worry, he’d be just fine. She was right! My young son loved coming to MOPS, and so did I.

I once worked with a twenty-something who’d been married only for a couple of years. His wife really wanted to start a family. But he said he wasn’t ready to have kids because they’d change things, and for now, his life was all about him. Sadly, he was killed in a car accident six months later. But children really do change our lives while they’re growing up. Carol Kuykendall calls children family change agents. Although we may resist them growing older, our kids will persistently maneuver us through many new firsts and lasts.
Also in this issue,
Blessings,

Children: Family Change Agents Our children motivate us toward and through many changes. by Carol Kuykendall
I remember the first time my youngest daughter pulled her chubby little hand away from mine as we walked into the grocery store together one day. I automatically reached out to re-hold her hand, and again she pulled away. "I don't need to hold your hand," she said. Her unspoken message was clear: I'm growing up, Mommy. Deal with it.
