Ever tried to call in sick as a mom? I remember once our whole family had strep throat, and after several days on antibiotics, I was having a reaction to the medicine. My husband was over the strep throat and leaving for a business trip. The doctor informed me that sometimes people had to be hospitalized with the type of reaction to medication that I was having. Going to the hospital sounded better than staying home without another adult to help out when I felt miserable! At least at the hospital, someone would take care of me.
Getting through the winter cold and flu season as a mom takes more than determination; it also takes God's strength. Naomi Cramer Overton, President of MOPS International, describes this feeling of being overwhelmed and leaning on God for strength in "Oh, What a Night."
On the lighter side, sometimes we just have to laugh at what our children say in public settings. Elaina Ramona recounts an amusing incident at the bank, when the word her toddler kept repeating loudly sounded like "bomb." In her story, "Beware of Farm Animals" you'll discover the real meaning of the word "bomb" to a toddler.
Look for some laughter in your days, and that, along with God's strength, will give you a reason to smile even during the gray days of January.
Also in this issue,
Blessings,
