The Official Newsletter of MOMSense Tuesday, August 28, 2007
Last night our family was sitting on the front porch of our 1920's bungalow enjoying one of our favorite late-summer activities—storm watching! Fortunately my children never went through a phase of being afraid of electrical storms. Maybe that's because we've always enjoyed sitting on the porch watching them move through our city.
A deep front porch is just the kind of cozy safe place from which to watch the storms, without being out in the danger of the storm. The front porch space we enjoy reminds me of the safety and bonding aspect of home for my family. The porch also represents our connection to our world outside the home, as we wave to our neighbors across the street. They enjoy sitting on their porch watching storms, too.
The September/October issue of MOMSense explores the idea of how to "live fully from the space you call home." Creating a home where we can be ourselves and feel accepted looks different for each of us.
Home as a place of inward focus and retreat is a natural longing for us as moms, and for our families. But home also is a place from which we connect with the community around us. Mary Beth Lagerborg shares that "a well-lived home is a launching pad" in the "Up Close & Personal" interview with MOMSense editor Mary Darr. And in "Home Sweet Home," Julie Cantrell has found home is a place where her friends and family can kick off their shoes and run barefoot. Pull up a chair and share a piece of pie.

Why Won't She Forgive? by Janine Petry
Q. When her younger sister apologizes after a fight, my five-year-old has a hard time saying, "I forgive you." I'm worried she's harboring resentment that'll build and show itself later in life. Is she too young to understand forgiveness?
