 Crossroads This Week's Theme: God's Guidance
Wednesday, December 1, 1999

Key Bible Verse:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight
(Proverbs 3:5-6). Bonus Reading: Jeremiah 6:16; Proverbs 11:5
Basketball coach Homer Drew, who last year took the Valparaiso University Crusaders all the way to the NCAA finals, was standing at a crossroads in 1976. Then traveling close to half the year as a top assistant to Dale Brown at Louisiana State, he made the professionally risky choice of turning his back on Division I coaching, accepting a coaching job at a small Indiana college so he could spend time with his three young sons.
Homer realigned his priorities by putting God first, his family second, his career somewhere following. How could Drew make such an absurd choice and still experience success? Because Drew had come to an even more crucial crossroads earlier in his life.
Drew's destiny was secured 2,000 years ago at Calvary. Homer Drew trusted in Jesus Christ's sacrificial death as his only hope for forgiveness of his sins and the eternal salvation of his soul. This choice enabled Drew to stand at the crossroads of obedience in 1976 and put Christ first.
