Key Bible Verse:
"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer"
(Matthew 21:22). Bonus Reading: 1 John 5:14-15
In 1985, a NASCAR team that had won races but had no sponsor asked me to be their driver. Rice and I prayed about it, packed up and moved. As the team prepared for the racing season, we prayed daily for a sponsor.
But the team was running out of money. We entered the first race of the seasonthe Daytona 500anyway. We qualified with a white car with a big blue numberand no sponsor's name.
Saturday, I watched a preliminary race. Kent Brown, a guy I'd briefly met, sat next to me. He said, "I've never been to a stock car race. Tell me what's going on."
I did. It was a close race, and a car spun out. Kent said, "This is the most exciting thing I've ever seen! I'm with Nationwide Auto Parts. I came here to work out a sponsorship with a team, but never connected. Would y'all be interested in an associate [one-time] sponsor?"
Sunday, I started the Daytona with the painted-on sponsor's name still wet on the car! I finished second. Driving into the garage area, the first guy I saw was Kent. "This is great! We'll sponsor you fully for the rest of the year."
