Key Bible Verse: Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you (Proverbs 4:25). Bonus Reading: Matthew 14:22-33
When you fire a rifle, you don't just point and shoot. You must carefully calculate the distance, hold the rifle very still, and looking through your sight, focus your attention upon the target. Otherwise, your bullets will litter the ground around the target without actually ever hitting it.
It is the same in our Christian lives. We can expend all kinds of energy, but if we are not sighted in on the target, we'll always miss our goals. Throughout Scripture we see evidence of people who neglected to set their sights properly. Discouragement, anguish, failure and defeat were the inevitable results.
We will never reach our goals in the Christian life unless we focus on Jesus. The apostle Peter learned this important lesson the hard way (see today's Bonus Reading). He should be the target toward which our heart is aimed.
What difficulty are you experiencing? Are you keeping your focus centered on God's promises? He promises to help you through the rough seas of life. But you must keep your sights upon Him.
