Where's Your Church? The Church Keith Long Wednesday, March 8, 2000
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house
(Hebrews 3:6a). Bonus Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:14-27
"Where are you building your church?" the man asked. "Out on Lyle Road," I answered. Moments later, I realized how wrong I was. That's only where the building will be located. Until we start investing in each other, I don't think the Lord is going to be behind our building program. Christ is very interested in seeing us invest in each other, for we are His house.
In a story about D. L. Moody, he was visiting a prominent Chicago citizen when the idea of church membership and involvement came up.
"I believe I can be just as good a Christian outside the church as I can be inside it," the man said.
Moody said nothing. Instead, he moved to the fireplace, blazing against the winter outside, removed one burning coal and placed it on the hearth.
The two men sat together and watched the ember die out.
"I see," the other man said.
Spiritually, we need each other. That's the whole reason for the church.
Keith Long in Room to Grow Personal Challenge:
- What are your "spiritual gifts"? How have you used them to build up the church?
Thought to Apply: We are hearing today about those who like Christ but do not like the church. But Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. How can we like the Head, but not the Body, the Groom, but not the Bride?
