Crossing the Mine Field

My
father was a machine gunner in the first World War. He fought at Vimy Ridge where
he was wounded and many thousands of lives were lost. He told me of one day when
his commanding officer ordered him to take his men out of the trenches and across
a field that had been mined by the enemy. He was to wait for the mine expert to
lead him and his men safely through. When the expert arrived, he said, "I
will take you across on one condition: whenever I tell you to do something, do
it without question. It will mean your life and mine if you don't." The expert
took my father and his men safely through the field. My father's future, as well
as his children's and grandchildren's futures, depended on his obedience that
day.
Our world is full of land
mines planted by the Enemy. Our loving Heavenly Father knows just where they
are planted and asks us to walk with him safely through them. Our future and
the futures of our children depend entirely on our obedience to the expert.
The Holy Spirit is our teacher, and he will apply God's Word to our hearts.
