Turning Over the Wheel

My
family rented a small motor home for a trip when I was a teenager. I'd just received
my driver's permit and insisted on driving at every opportunity. My parents agreed
to let me drive some of the time. While making our way through Utah, they permitted
me not only to drive but to read the map and choose the route. I selected what
appeared on the map to be a shortcut. But the "shortcut" was a mountain
pass. I found myself driving the motor home over a narrow road with dangerous
turns. Eventually, I had to turn around because the road ahead had been closed
due to snow.
By the time I reached the
bottom of the mountain, my hands were shaking on the steering wheel, and I submitted
to my parents' expertise as drivers and navigators. What a relief to scoot out
of the driver's seat and let my dad be in charge again!
We need God's direction.
When we submit ourselves to God, we're saying, "Lord, you know the dangerous
turns ahead. There are mysteries of life I'll never comprehend. You lead, I'll
follow."
What a relief to slide
over and let God steer our lives!
