Key Bible Verse: If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you (1 Peter 4:14). Bonus Reading: 1 Peter 4:12-19
Reggie White was a ferocious competitor on the gridiron. And, despite his gentle demeanor, he still opposes the forces of political correctness.
During a speech before the Wisconsin state legislature, White forthrightly presented biblical stances on greed, sexual immorality, race relations and obscene movies and music. In comparing the gay rights movement to the civil rights movement, he said, "Homosexuality is a decision. It's not a race."
White's words were reported in the national press, and homosexual activists started branding him an "extremist" and "bigot." Some of the same state legislators who'd flocked to have their photo taken with White after the speech were later reported to be "shocked" or "appalled" at White's words.
Several corporate sponsors dropped White, notably Campbell Soup. And CBS Sports, about to sign a five-year, $6 million deal with him to be a football commentator, backed out.
White stood firm. "I'm not going to back off what I know God has put in my heart to share," he says. "God owns a lot more than CBS could ever give me."
