Chalkboard in the Pub

To
make ends meet, Graham Stanford got a job on a pipeline with some very rough men.
He let them know that he was a Christian; they razzed him unmercifully. One thing
they all agreed on, however, was that one crew member—I'll call him Jake—was
totally obnoxious.
This being England, all
the guys went to the pub frequently. They spent their pay as soon as they got
it, then drank on credit for two weeks until their next paycheck. Accounts were
kept on a chalkboard behind the bar so that everyone could see how much everyone
owed. Jake had the biggest debt, carried it over each time and was getting further
and further behind.
One day Graham went into
the bar with the rest of the men, got a cloth, dampened it, walked to the chalkboard
and wiped out Jake's name and indebtedness. He took his paycheck, handed it
to the pub owner and said, "Take it out of that."
The other men stared and
asked, "Why in the world would you do that for him?"
Graham replied, "Because
that's what God did for me. He forgave my sin."
