It was one of those days! Feeling down, I decided to give myself a treat at a trendy men's clothing store. As I ran my fingers over the shirts, I found a couple that were just right. Of course, I needed some slacks to go with them. "Not a problem," the salesman assured me. I selected a couple.

The price on the sales slip was a problem. I walked out of the store feeling better and worse. The clothes looked great, but I'd put myself in a financial bind by charging them. I also hesitated to tell Nancy.

That evening I showed her the latest addition to my wardrobe. She praised my selection, then asked the question I'd hoped to avoid: "Rod, why'd you buy these when you've already spent your clothing budget?"

I wore one combination to work the next day, and got the rave reviews I'd looked forward to. I'm known for my dapper wardrobe. The product people at Promise Keepers even consult me about their latest choices on shirts and pants.

I have a problem craving clothes and the affirmation they bring. If I don't bridle this area of compulsion, it'll do serious damage to my life.
