Coming Through This Week's Theme: God, Our Great Provider Jim Cymbala Monday, October 30, 2000

Key Bible Verse: And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Bonus Reading:Ephesians 3:14-21
When Jim Cymbala came to pastor the Brooklyn Tabernacle, a dying church in a run-down neighborhood, the fewer than 20 attendees had limited financial resources.
I will never forget that first Sunday morning offering: $85. The monthly mortgage payment was $232, not to mention the utility bills or anything for a pastoral salary. When the mortgage payment came due at the end of the month, the checking account showed $160 in hand.
After my day off, I went to the church on Tuesday. The mail camenothing but bills and fliers. "God," I sobbed, "You have to help us!" Eventually, a new thought came. Wait a minute! Besides the mail slot, the church has a post office box . I walked over to the post office and peered inside the little box. Nothing.
I trudged wearily back. As I unlocked the door, there on the floor was something that hadn't been there just minutes earlier: a plain white envelope. With trembling hands I opened it to findtwo 50 dollar bills! I began shouting, "God, you came through!" To this day I don't know where the money came from. But it was a sign to me that God was nearand faithful.
Jim Cymbala in Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire Respond:
Are you in need today? Cast your cares on your loving God and ask Him to help you. Thought to Apply:
If I am faithful to the duties of the present, God will provide for the future.
Gregory T. Bedell (preacher)
