Gravel from God This Week's Theme: God, Our Great Provider Bryan Chapell Tuesday, October 31, 2000

Key Bible Verse: "I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted" (Job 42:2). Bonus Reading:Ephesians 1:11-14
David Knowlton wanted to build a mission clinic in the African desert, but his plans were thwarted by the absence of gravel for a concrete foundation. Though sand extended for hundreds of miles, gravel was so scarce that local builders treated it like precious stone.
David wandered into the desert one evening praying about his predicament. He struck his toe against a small stone in the sand. What was the rock doing here? He rushed to the compound for a shovel, pushed away the surface sand and found gravel!
Next morning, David rounded up wheelbarrows and hired workers to take the gravel to the building site. They transported all they could findenough for the clinic foundation plus the mission quarters and a storehouse. As word of the gravel find spread, "prospectors" descended on the site. But no one found any more.
Millennia earlier, God planted that little pocket of gravel in an ocean of sand for David to find for this project. Then at just the right time, God exposed those pebbles to encourage a heart, establish a mission, and turn back the forces of darkness.
Bryan Chapell in The Wonder of It All Respond:
Do you have a dream only God could make come true? Thought to Apply:
God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into the nest.
