Key Bible Verse: "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40b). Bonus Reading: Matthew 25:31-46

Not long after we moved [into an old hospital building], a man walked into my office. Clayton Golliher, dressed plainly and speaking unpretentiously, told about ministering to the runaway kids who came to Hollywood seeking a dream—only to have that dream turn to nightmare as they ended up homeless on the streets.

For 17 years, he'd walked the streets, proclaiming Jesus and rescuing kids. Many nights, he searched through the back alleys for boys and girls living in garbage cans, and gave them food. He took them into his house. But, without an adequate shelter, he could do only so much.

After hearing his story, I knew he belonged on our [Los Angeles International Church] team. Every Thursday night he brings a bus full of kids from the street to our services. Some of them haven't showered in a week. Some of them might even be high coming into the service, but Clayton sits by them and loves them.

If you visit Hollywood Boulevard, you may see Clayton talking to kids with spiked hair, ministering to a prostitute or encouraging a boy who lives in a dumpster.

—Matthew Barnett in The Church That Never Sleeps

Respond:
  • To what lengths are you willing to go to meet the needs of those whom God has called us to care for?

Thought to Apply: There are many of us who are willing to do great things for the Lord, but few of us are willing to do the little things.

—DWIGHT L. MOODY (evangelist, 19th century)
