Prayers That Make a Man
This Week's Theme: Praying for Your Family
Saturday, December 2

Q. How should I pray for my role as husband?
A. From time to time I pray: "Father in heaven, Help me to be the man my wife needs me to be today. Help me to always be caring and attentive toward her and sensitive to her concerns and to provide for her as I ought. Enable me to listen to what she says, and to always be courteous and thoughtful toward her and encouraging to her in all her efforts.

Help me always to be alert to protect her and defend her against harm or insult. Please give me the will and energy to share my heart and my thoughts with her, and to tell her the things that seem self-evident to me but may not be clear to her at all. Help me to be kind, appreciative and fun to live with.

How about praying for my role as a father?
Here is a prayer you might use:

"Lord, help me to be observant of my children and sensitive to them. Give me unusual insight into their lives.

Help me give attention to them and be available to them to give guidance in the decisions they face. Help me to provide a moral foundation for them. Help me to give them emotional health by valuing and caring for them.

Help me to prepare them for the world they'll face as they grow. Help me to share my relationship with you, Father.

Remind me to take the time to understand my children's perspectives before I speak. Remind me to be more playful with them again. Give me the grace to model for my children what it means to be a good and godly person.
