Is This What I Came to Do?
This Week's Theme: Faithfulness to God
Monday, December 25
Key Bible Verse: Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much (Luke 6:10a). Bonus Reading: Matthew 25:14-30
When Pat and I were preparing for mission work in Colombia, because Pat didn't know Spanish, we first went to language school in Costa Rica. Our twin boys, Kevin and Keith, were nine months old. Friends found a house for us, but not a maid. Now you must understand that Latin men do not touch babies. I'd never changed a diaper in my life.
On the first day of Pat's language school, off she went, leaving me and the two little guys to fend for ourselves. Soon the twins started crying, so I stuck bottles in their mouths. But then there were other matters to attend to. I changed one of them (probably not too well), then the other, and they went to sleep. They did it again. Together. It was a conspiracy!
About the fourth day, as I was changing another diaper, I said, "Lord, is this what I came to do? Instead of preaching and saving souls, here I am changing dirty diapers."
Quietly, the Lord said to me, "Now, Luis, you're always telling the women how wonderful it is to have Christ in you in all circumstances. But actually you were limiting it to some circumstances that were pleasing." It was a great lesson.

Respond:
Thank Jesus that He was willing to accept painful circumstances for you.
