The Plants-and-Pillars Promise This Week's Theme: Praying for Your Family Bob Beltz Friday, December 1, 2000
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace (Psalm 144:12). Bonus Reading: 1 Chronicles 29:19
Several years ago, our son Baker, then a year old, had serious, undiagnosed medical problems. I came across [today's Key Bible Verse] and I realized God was giving me a promise for both of my children. I began praying that God would make Baker like a well-nurtured plant. Stephanie, at age 10, already looked like "a pillar carved to adorn a palace." I prayed that God would give her inner purity to match her outer beauty.
Two weeks later, when Baker entered Children's Hospital for three days of intensive testing, there was a marked improvement. His metabolism began to function properly. The doctors cautioned me that he'd probably never be able to play sports. Just yesterday, Baker beat me down a ski slope!
Stephanie's in high school now. God has faithfully answered my prayers about her. She's fully adolescent. But she has a strong commitment to Christ and a value system that is serving her well in the chaos of contemporary, secular high-school life.
When I've been faithful in praying for my children, I have a great sense of peace about their lives.

Pray for your children. Thought to Apply:
Prayer guarantees that I am seeing my role as father for what it really isa spiritual calling, the most important assignment God will ever give me.
